Guinea pig removes all hay from hay holder

So my Guinea pig we don’t know how removes all the hay from the trough then complains that they don’t have hay. The hay trough is outside the cage but he still some how gets it all out! Is their a way I can slow down this behavior? So the Hay stays in the trough and some of it ends up on the floor where my cat eats it.

That’s normal. The best thing is to get rid of the hay holder altogether. He is complaining because he has been through all the bits he wants to and then doesn’t have any more. The ones that go on the outside of the cage, frankly, are not suitable, mostly are far too small and restrict their ability to do what they need to do with their hay.

The very best thing is to just throw large loose piles of hay directly into the cage every day and let them have fun with it, forage through it, sleep in it, snuggle into it etc.

Guinea pigs use hay for entertainment,play,fun,hiding and eating.piles of hay are good for guinea pigs.i think it would be difficult to contain the hay.i use a small bowl for treat hay,just spread hay all over the cage,

That's normal behaviour, honestly. The best bit of hay might be right at the back of the trough and he doesn't know it's not til he gets there. You'd be better off giving him a hay pile in the cage and working from that.

Awesome. Hopefully you will be rewarded with a happy pig wearing his hay like a hat A big old pile of hay meets so many of their needs and even though to us it seems grim as they pee and poo in it, from their perspective that just makes it even tastier

Mine love their hay piles.
I love watching a pile of hay wandering around the cage or bouncing because there’s a guinea pig under it.
They create runs through the hay, eat it, Wee and poop in it and generally have fun.
Yes - they do complain when they feel the enormous pile of hay isn’t enough so please can they have some more.
