I've just been looking on the Guinea Pig Rescue Centre Locator & the distances/mileages seem to be way out.

Here's some examples:-
Scarborough to Bramley Animal Rescue 60.53 Miles RAC states 72.15 Miles
Scarborough to Cavy Corner 60.55 Miles RAC states 82.19 Miles
NEGPR 66.73 Miles RAC states 89.61 Miles

Maybe an administrator could look into this. I'm thinking that the RAC gives distance by road & the locator as the crow flies. Which of us guinea pig people has an helicopter!

You don't have a chopper?! Yes, I will mention it to Dr Falken, see if anything can be done... If it can he will know

Thanks, you'd normally expect 2 or 3 miles either way but not 20+ miles as 2 of the above are.

Id noticed the same thing, it says NEGPR is 31 miles from me but as soon as I click directions under the link google tells me its 50.4 miles :-) RAC also states that x

I am shocked and appalled at the lack of helicopters you guys have.... I have mentioned this to Falken, if there is a way to fix it we will. If not we can just drop the miles off there so it wont mislead.

Correct, due to technical limitations it has to work them out using the straight line distance between two coordinates. You see when you type in your location it goes through a list of all the locations in the cutoff distance and has to work out their distance, if it had to work it out via road pathing then it'd take forever, that's really what the directions link is for.

Thought that would be the case, thanks for looking into it. Its still ace :)

I'm surprised our members don't have helicopters, we can only afford ours through forum donations. ;) :lol!:

Be up yours in 5 mins, just refueling the Apache Gunship.... :))

Good, take out next door's shitzus when you arrive! :lol!:

Them machine guns aren't very loud, I thought it was Mrs Hogg letting rip after having baked beans for tea!

Yes I thought that was it. The straight line distances can be a lot less. I've experience the same with www.petrolprices.com they seem to use the same methods. Pity it couldn't be linked to www.rac.co.uk or other similar site for getting route planners from.

The rescue locator is linked with Google who provide directions :D once you click the directions button.

If it cant be changed how about a note at the rop of the page saying they arent accurate abd to click direcrions?

jeez i hate using mobile web for this lol!

Yeh I agree, maybe a note saying "The mileage is as the crow flies and it may be a lot longer by road".
