Guinea Pig Responsibilities

This is what people need to really see, not the cute videos. Yes they can be cute, but when they’re ill it can be really difficult to take care of them. They’re not as disposable as some think they are. Unfortunately the videos of cute piggies will be the ones that win the views.

Last year, our kitchen counter and cupboards were full of syringes and medications for Cookie. Sadly she passed away on Sept. 2019. 😭

Thankfully, we don't have any sick piggies during this pandemic. Fingers crossed I didn't just jinxed it.🤞

Having piggies seems to come hand in hand with turning a small corner of your house into a pharmacy! I have stopped keeping track of how much I spend on syringes alone, ignorance is bliss!
Everytime we have visitors and have sick piggies at the same time, hubby would always tell them, "yes I'm a Scouser but those syringes are for my piggies not mine". 🤣🤣

my kitchen looks like that to ! I'm syringe feeding two poorly guinea pigs at this time, both have totally lost there appetite. ive been feeding one for 6 weeks around the clock.i agree with all the above posters.

Dennis has been ill for nearly 8 weeks now and has had 2 lots of antibiotics, Metacam and is now going in a nebuliser box twice a day to try and shift this URI. He has been to the vet twice (would have been more but they have had a positive Covid test from one of the vet nurses). I have had numerous phone consultations about him and sent 2 update emails to the vet! Am awaiting a reply from 2nd email which I'll chase up today. He is being topped up with syringe feed 3-4 times a day as he is still eating but just needs that bit extra.

Guinea pigs may look cute but they certainly aren't easy to look after or cheap! They should never be advertised as "Perfect for children" as a certain pet shop here in the UK did at one point (and most probably still does).
