He was fine yesterday but started chirping around bedtime. This morning he was just chirping from his bed. He’s not got up all day and we’ve had to bring his food to bed, he’s not eaten his nuggets but has eaten all his veg. I had to bring his water to him as well. Getting worried and we’ve booked a vets appointment first thing Monday morning, is there anything we can do until the vet checks him over? Does anyone know what it might be?

Hi and welcome!

Please have your boy seen ASAP as an emergency if at all possible! Monday may be too late.

Take the time to read the link belowL Emergency and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment
In it, we have compiled all the information and links to 'how to' guides for emergency bridging care at home, including syringe feeding care with what you have got handy or easily available until you can see a vet at the soonest. We have also included guides that list exactly which symptoms constitute a life and death emergency, which you are sadly dealing with.

There are unfortunately a number of problems that can come on very suddenly, right out of the blue and that can kill in a matter of minutes or hours rather than a day.. The sooner you can see a vet, the more of a chance you have for saving your piggy's life if it is a treatable issue. Guinea pigs are only small animals with a very fast metabolism; when they fall seriously, their illness is on fast forward. Any guinea pig that is not eating/drinking and that is very lethargic is a guinea pig at high risk of losing its life and that needs to be seen by a vet NOW.

Fingers very firmly crossed for your boy!

I agree with Wiebke, you should try to change your appt to an earlier date. Guinea pigs that are lethargic, not eating/drinking much have a lower energy and strength level than that of healthy piggies, making them weak. Your piggie is at a high risk of passing away if you wait until Monday for the appt. I wish you and your beloved piggie good luck 🙂

He’s doing fine, went to the vets and nothing wrong and he’s back to his usual self!

Not sure why he was off but he’s happy now :) although he’s still making the odd chirping sound :/

Thank you everyone for your advice!

Sounds like he could have been spooked by something

Maybe he ate something weird, I've seen a lot of people saying similar things when they first introduce parsley
