So I'm trying not to worry too much as I've already seen a vet about his sneezing in October- I know that sounds awhile ago- and she said it definitely wasn't a URI which must've been right or else I don't think he'd still be here as I know how quickly a URI can go bad. So the vet also said there wasn't a fluid in his lungs and though I find his breathing loud sometimes she said there wasn't an issue there either. Apparently it's an hay allergy and I've tried different hay etc but it still continues -the sneezing that is.
Anyway,I just walked in on him now and usually when he sneezes there is no discharge and it's not like continous sneezes without a pause. But I just walked in and he had snot? On his nose. I wiped it straight off and it only seemed to come out of one nostril. He has had fresh hay put in and I'm wondering if that was that and if I should be worrying...he seems fine and is kinda looking at me like I'm an idiot. It doesn't seem wet or off under his nose but could you guys look at the pics and say if it seems worrying. He still eating and is now munching hay again.

The only thing I can thing of, is maybe he has a small piece of hay up his nose. It could cause the sneezing as it is irritating his nose. I would go back to the vet, to see if she can remove it.

Are you using dust free hay? There is a website that specialises in it x

Oh,I didn't know that! The hay I've got says dust extracted (meadow hay)and the vet suggested it and it has made his sneezes a little better. I will have to get some of that and try it-he hasn't got anymore snot/mucus so I think it must have been something poked him. Phew:) x thank you guys

Thank you very much! Mo is gloating in all these compliments. I've found no more snot and the sneezing has died down again. I've ordered some dust free hay and will see if that stops the sneezing for good!

Oh yeah he has loads of character! And is very naughty. :lol!: Mo is an agouti cross but he does have a lighter belly and chin

Hi, I was just wondering if you ever tried Dust Free Hay? I usually buy my Oxbow Timothy Hay from Amazon but it's costing me a small fortune! So looking for another good quality hay that doesn't cost the earth! I'm also wondering if one of my girls have a dust allergy.

Hi @Mhairi I did yes but it didn't stop the sneezing and he wasn't thrilled by it haha. I've gone back to Timothy hay which he had at the beginning and his sneezing isn't as bad as it was in October. He sneezes three times a day now? Sometimes less and sometimes more. I get my Timothy hay from Pets at home because amazon is too expensive especially with how quick he goes through it. It's £3 for a decent sized bag which lasts a good 2 months or at least a month with Mo. Could you elaborate on your sows symptoms? :)

She just sneezes every now and again and has done for a while. Had her back down at the vets on Friday (as she somehow managed to rip off a claw....) and asked the vet about it. She said it could be a hay allergy. No nasal discharge and her behaviour seems fine so nothing to suggest a URI. Just have to keep an eye on her. Bit of a nerve wracking time as I just worry that I miss something.

Oh yes I know the feeling! Even after visiting the vet I was still worrying the it was URI and expected to loose him but he's still here- eating! Yeah it definitely sounds like an allergy to me.
