Hi,

My Boar has recently had sergery to move 2 stones. he had this done just over a week. But he is still making some noise when weeing and poss pillets.

was wordering if anyone has had the same, or can give some adive about it.

He is eating and dringing normally and only lost a bit of weight (just trying to put it back on).

If anyone could help, would really be useful.
Thanks, Katrina

You didn't mention where the stones were, but he could have a water infection, if the flow of urine was compromised by the stones position. My sow had one in her urethra and this caused projectile weeing, she had an infection due to not being able to pass urine normally. Like Sophie said, did your vet give you any pain relief for your boar, he may well just be in pain after being through having stones removed. If you have a post op appointment you could mention these problems on your return.

The wall of the bladder will be inflamed from the effect of the stones.
The problem will eventually resolve but in the meantime it may help him if you give him a painkiller such as 0.2ml Calpol, once daily for 2 or 3 days.
If he has an infection he will need Paediatric Septrin Suspension, 0.5ml twice daily for 7 days.

Hi,

He was on Baytril for a week. but is now off it.

Had a ofter op visit to vet, he said stop the baytril, but keep an eye on him. But he was'nt making much noise then.

Can go back if it's for painkillers.

Thanks
Katrina

Have you tried contacting the cct and talking to vedra? I am surprised he was not given painkillers after the op? You can if you think he is in pain give him baby nurofen 0.1 to 0.2 twice daily or get rimadyl or metacam from the vets.

I'm sorry to hear your boy is still having problems. I would agree with Alcesterpigs that if he has an infection Septrin is the best antibiotic for a problem in this area. Have you tried offering him unsweetened cranberry juice or the water from boiled up pearl barley, the latter will help to coat the lining of the bladder and hopefully help to soothe it. Did you vet want to re-check your piggy after a few days?

Several years ago one of my boys had some large stones removed, initially appeared to make a good recovery, but then about 10 days later started presenting with the same problems again - it transpired that despite having a thorough bladder flush after surgery further crystals were already forming in his bladder, hence setting off another infection.

I would definitely go back for a further check up if you are not happy.
