I recently put bedding in my hamsters cage, i wanted to litter train. It was lavender scented. This was two days ago. I took it out the day after because he would smell it and sneeze. He is still sneezing every now and then but shows no other sign of illness. He is also no longer crying for food like always but still eats it and drinks water. He also stays in the open and stares at the wall for a while which his unusual. help! am i over worried?

You say hamster - I’m going to assume you mean guinea pig as this is a guinea pig forum (we do have a section for other pets though).

please weigh your piggy daily to ensure he is eating enough hay - hay is the most important part of the diet and needs to be the biggest proportion of the daily food intake. If your piggy stops eating hay and/or loses weight then you must step in and syringe feed.

You must also take your piggy to a vet. We cannot tell you what is actually wrong, only a vet can do that.

You can’t litter train guinea pigs.
Using a scented litter is likely to cause respiratory problems as guinea pigs have sensitive and narrow airways.

once your piggy is back to full health, if your piggy is alone, the please ensure you get him a same sex friend. Guinea pigs are highly social, herd animals and must always be kept in pairs otherwise they get lonely.
