Guinea Pig struggling to eat hay, not her usual self...

Hi everyone,

Our Piggie Josie has been ill over Christmas. We noticed she was eating very slowly and spending time huddled in the corner, facing away from us/the cage so we took her to the vets and they sent us away with PainKillers & Critical Care, due to weight loss and suspected dental issues. Took her back two days later and she had an x-ray and they said her teeth are fine, but they noticed a chest infection. They sent us away with a weeks worth of Emeprid and Baytril Josie has taken the critical care okay, she seems to be hungry, but still not eating hay and still huddled in the corner a lot. Our Vets dont seem to know whats going on, nor do we, do anyone know if a Guinea savvy vet in West Lancashire? She has picked up a little and her weight has stabilised in the low 700's but we just know something isn't right. She is also chattering and clashing her teeth a lot. Anyone experienced anything similar? Thank you.

It's great that you have got her weight to stabilise, that's the most tricky thing. Now it's just figuring out why she isn't regaining and what's preventing her from eating hay for herself

Definitely recommending going to a vet. Your piggy may have a problem with her back teeth, either over grown or such. Wish your piggy luck!

The chattering teeth is a big sign she is in pain
