My boy has just recovered from being very poorly, the vet thinks he had an infection that caused lots of gas, diarrohea, sudden extreme weight loss as he wouldn't eat himself etc. He is now much better and pretty much back to his usual self, only for us to find he has injured on of his eyes, so he's got antibiotic eye drops twice daily and vet wants to see him again next week to check up on it.

One other thing we've noticed is since he got his appetite back he is drinking A LOT more than usual. Like probably about 2/3rds of a bottle each day, that's on top of the water in his veggies. We did mention this to the vets and she said she reckoned it was just part of his recovery and putting back weight on etc, but it's been a few days now and I'm worried in case it might be diabetes or something else? He is back at the vets on Tuesday so if he's still like this then, will definitely mention it again to the vets - should I really push to have him tested for diabetes or anything do you think? How do they test that anyway?

I'm not an expert in guinea pig health, but I know that being ill, and in particular diarrhoea, can leave you a bit dehydrated. He's maybe just replacing the water he's lost when he was ill. If your vet is happy that it's part of his recovery, then I would just keep an eye on him. I hope the poor wee mite is feeling better soon x
