Hi. Our little Chip had to be put down about an hour ago. My partner and I are devastated but it was a very quick illness and he was 5 years old.

I was wondering if anyone had any successes with either taxidermy or a replica?

We were wondering if taxidermy isn't the best option, maybe a model of him with his ashes inside might be a nice memorial.

Thank you so much in advance.

I'm so sorry to hear about Chip.
I know that lots of forum members have needle-felted guinea pig models. I'm sure some of the talented needle-felters on Etsy etc. would be willing to make one if you reached out to them.
Please take some time to read the forum bereavement guides. They're a tough read, but very helpful throughout the grieving process. Human Bereavement: Grieving, Processing and Support Links for Guinea Pig Owners and Their Children
Does Chip have a surviving companion?

Again, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It sounds like he was absolutely doted on. 🌈

Thank you so much for your kind words.

Yes, he has Bunny, his guinea pig companion. We're leaving Chip in there for a couple of hours so Bunny can understand what's happened to him.

We'll be monitoring him very closely and are already talking about plans for another companion when he's ready.

So sorry for your loss. Definitely check Etsy for people who do needle felting. Some people also get a portrait painted of their piggies.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I do like having reminders of my past pets around. I like painting stones, I'm in the process of creating a stone guinea pig for all the pigs I've owned, past or present. One of my kids is a good artist, we have little home-made Christmas ornaments with a cartoon version of all the past/present pets on them too... I like putting them up every year and remembering them. We also have had a couple of pets cremated and we have their urns around the house. We have a little figurine of a hamster that looks like my daughter's Yuffie that sits next to her urn. It's kind of a nice way to remember her.

When my Goddaughter lost her first and beloved rabbit I had a needle felted version of him made. She couldn't believe how much like the real version he was. That may be an idea. I've had earrings made of my Rainbow piggies in the past.
