Heres a tip for new Guinea pig owners, don't feed them lettuce, because it gives them diahorrea, only feed them, apples, Cabbage, and broccoli. ( And Guinea pig nuggets and treats(Obviously!))

I think we all appreciate you trying to offer advice but I disagree with what you said.

They can have lettuce as a treat, just not iceberg ;)

They also need a lot more veg than just apples, cabbage and brocolli. Apples shouldn't be fed too often because they're quite acidic and can cause sores around the piggies mouth. They need a variety of fresh veg and herbs daily...veg you can feed (off the top of my head..they can have loads more though - look in the food section ;)), sweetcorn, carrot, parsley, kale, spinach, rocket, corriander, watercress, various other herbs, peppers, cauliflower...then other fruit (but not often) like strawberries, melon, banana, grapes etc.

Check out the food section for more info because some of the stuff I mentioned can only be fed once or twice a week ;)

:) Good advice about feeding only a little lettuce (Romaine is OK in moderation and introduced gradually, as are most save for Iceberg) but they can have a far more varied diet than you've suggested :) and don't miss out grass (which guineas love) and hay for keeping teeth in check and boredom at bay :)

To be honest I only look at Guinea Lynx for feeding advice as lots of people have different ideas and it can be confusing. Romaine (Cos) lettuce is ok every other day, apples have lots of sugar in so should be fed as a treat, cabbage is ok 2-4 times a week and it is the same for broccoli. Treats are a no no in our house except if it is of the veggie kind.

Pretty much the same here Louise :) Sunflower seeds are my current treat, and my Chicory is growing nicely too :)

I had no idea they could eat sunflower seeds....can they have them fresh off the sunflower?

yeah good tips evryone O0 they need a lot more than just the things We love JJ and Ollie said, although it's really great that you are trying to give advice, and i appreciate you trying love. :) with the lettuce thing, we all have different views i think. i would definitely not give it to them a lot, however, once or twice a week as a treat in small doses should be ok, it shouldn't be considered an actual food though, i don't think, but as a treat. that is how i feed it, very occassionaly as a treat. they do love it, but it hasn't got much nutritional value at all. and don't feed iceburg. :) apples have a high sugar content and are quite acidic and can cause mouth sores, so only feed about once a week as a treat, and cabbage and broccoli, as sunshineandtwinkle has said is ok 2-4 times a week. i only give treats like veggies, fruit, different hays, herbs and dried herbs and fruit etc. only natural definitely, mine like strawberry leaves as a treat from my garden. :)

Sunflower seeds are not suitable for the piggy digestion. They are high in fat and protien.

Ooops, sorry, thanks Mary, I mean Sunflower Greens, not seeds, and only as a treat :)

Grown from a sunflower seed (hence my putting seed by mistake ::) ), but only until the first 2 leaves are showing. They are high in Protein so should only be fed as a treat, they are also very nutritious containing amongst other things 7 of the B vitamins. :)Planet Guinea Sunflower Greens

Oh OK thanks I'm with you now.

Completely off the topic, I was wondering why my sunflowers looked a bit sad, then I saw the squirrel sitting on them and eating all the seeds!
