What are considered Guinea Pig toys? I've been reading that they need toys or they go bored and I don't want that to happen to my herd.

Thank you in advance.

As far as i can make out, Guinea Pigs are only interested in things they can eat, sleep in or wee on. Mine have ignored various chew toys and treats, but go nuts for some hay stuffed in a paper bag or cardboard tube. They quite enjoy digging up the newspaper under the sawdust in their cage as well.

I find the best toys are made of cardboard eg all types of rolls + boxes with holes cut in. Even stiff paper bags.

McDonalds/Holland & Barrett and Primark bags or a box (I scrounge these off family ha) are ideal piggy toys, I cut off the handles stuff with hay/herbage/muesli and then fold them closed, the piggies then chew into them to get their treats, I do the same with loo roll tubes. Metal treat balls that hang up in their cages do down well here also.

Mine have tunnels, big piles of hay, cardboard tubes, they like some of the plain wood or wicker toys you can buy online. I think hay is their fave tho, I get cheaper 'playhay' along with their more expensive food hay.

a customer that came into my store told my colleague that she gets paper bags (ones you put veg in) and she put some cut veg in bottom then fills rest with hay and her guinea pig loves going through it to get to veg

Literally anything they can eat, they'll absolutely love. I can guarantee you quite a few of us have gone through the process of buying a really expensive toy for our cavies, only for them to ignore it completely and choose to munch on the box instead :p cheaper is better and if it is cheaper, then you can get lots and lots! Cardboard tubes are a classic, just make sure if you have thin tubes/older pigs to cut them open so your pigs don't get stuck. I find seagrass toys are very popular as well, although I tend to give my pigs them in moderation as if they had it their way, they'd completely polish it off in one evening.

I got some funny looks from the cashier in Primark yesterday when I bought a few things and as she was packing them up I also asked for a small paper bag. Mum was with me and she asked if I was going to use it to ripen avocados and I said "no - its for the guinea pigs to play with". Don't think the cashier could work out if we were totally taking the mick!

I must admit I have been tempted to ask last time I was in Primark, in fact in looked like she was double-bagging my stuff, but I ended up walking away disappointed :/

Ha Ha! Just ask - what's the worst that can happen? - they say no. Or just go and buy something really tiny - can you ever have enough cheap rings/earrings?
