Hi all,

We recently got our first ever Guinea pigs in our own home and obviously want to give them the best love and care possible.

We've got them lots of little veggies, treats, toys and all sorts. So we went to out local pet shop and got them so little hanging stick treats which contains lots of good things for the piggies. However we noticed that it also contains dried onion (all these similar treats did) which we know is very poisonous to them.

Is this okay for them to have? We cant seem to see anything online about this being okay for them to have and we obviously dont want to cause them any pain or discomfort.

Thanks guys!

Definate NO - don't give treat sticks with onion in

... Or treat sticks in general (they've either got seeds in.... Or sugars.... Neither if which are good for guinea pigs)

The best treat you can give a guinea pig is a variety of hay.... Or maybe some forage.

There are lots of ideas in this thread...

Thank you very much all! That's greatly appreciated! I'll be throwing these away right away!

Of course it is! So sorry I forgot your name. I'm usually good with names. What with the worry of Christian and the stress of clearing the house of rubbish for an impending house move I have a lot of my mind atm. Maybe some wine will help?🍷
Wine helped me a lot the other week when my dog knocked me over and I sprained my wrist :))

Ah medicinal wine? I like that. Well.... Christian has chronic back pain and as he can't have wine, I'll just have to drink it for him.:)) He loves his Metacam though and will come when I call him now.

I can vouch for the high quality of the piggy parcels from @Guineautopia
Mine love the stuff I get.
They also think a chunk of cucumber or a red gem lettuce leaf is a treat.
A large paper bag full of hay is a piggy heaven - it can be eaten, weed in, pooped in, slept in.....,

My piggies love it when i stuff hay in a tp tube and give it to them, (no actual tp tho! Just cardboard part) or when i give them the odd piece of cucumber or carrot. Treat sticks if any kind are very unhealthy and are loaded with artificial coloring and sugars. Seeds are also in them and these pose as a choking hazard to piggies.

Thank you 😊
Paper bags are excellent, I get very excited in shops when they give out paper bags 🤣

We got some Guinea pig nuggets for them to eat as well, are the nuggets something they have to eat regularly? Or just veggies and hay a requirement? 😊

Depends what nuggets. They have vit c added into them, so its a good way of getting that too. But i.m.o i dont think they are needed too much. Again depends on what veg your pigs will eat. This is just my opinion, before someone asks me to explain myself👍
