Junior Guinea Pig
Hi all, I'm new here. My guinea pig Squirrel is unfortunately down with URI. He has been prescribed 100mg Karidox (Doxycyclin) 1x0.08ml daily and Bisolvon powder a pinch in his food daily for 14 days.
However last night he had a nose bleed and we called the emergency vet who told us to monitor him and bring him in the next day. Our vet today took a nose swab for culture test, and Squirrel sneezed out some blood after. We're back home now and he's still sneezing out some blood. The vet also gave us meloxicam 0.5 once a day and sulfatrim to start if there is no improvement the next few days. We are keeping his outer nose clean, wiping it as it comes. He hasn't bled since the last major sneeze.
Our vet is an exotic vet so I am inclined to believe him compared to my previous small animal vet who didn't know much about guinea pigs. The vet said there would be some blood because the swab probably dislodged a clot but told us to not worry about the bleed and to call if anything.
Is the nose bleed post swab normal? Should I call into the vets again?
Thanks everyone x
