After my previous post regarding leaving my single guinea pig, Makaio for 3 weeks while I go on holiday I have now find a place where he will be handled a lot and cared for better but I am just nervous that he will be sad with being out of our house and in a different home. He will still have his normal cage and usual food but I don’t want him to feel like we have give him to another owner if that makes any sense?
Thanks in advanced x

He should be absolutely fine, especially if he has his cage and hides etc. Home comforts as they say.

I’m sorry I’ve forgotten if you answered already (probably). Are you able to get him a friend when you return?

Enjoy your holiday and don’t stress too much. We’re all the same when we have to leave them 😜 We had to leave the boys at a boarder for a long weekend away and I was worried about how they would get on (in a smaller space), and the kids missed them. They were fine when I picked them up! Funnily enough I didn’t worry when we were away for a night and my niece and her dad popped in to feed them 😁

Safe travels!

I'm sorry to say it but a lot of the feelings you are worried about him having are human emotions and aren't felt the same by guinea pigs. I have left my piggies for a couple of weeks while on holiday with my mum coming in daily to care for them and I would love to say they missed me but in all honesty I don't think they even noticed I was gone :)) probably helps that their Nana spoils them and I'm sure they got more veggies and pellets than I usually give

With my family in another country, I have to regularly leave my piggies in trusted hands, whether that is a boarder or as my numbers are too large, a pet sitter coming in to feed and check once a day. I have also holiday boarded on an informal basis on occasion.

Finding somebody you can trust is the crucial point. The first time with a new person is always the most worrying one.
