I took Darcy to the vet this morning she suspects a respiratory injection and has given antibiotics and probiotics. I have been trying to syringe feed however Darcy isn’t taking a lot of it I managed to get her to take just under 5mls around half an hour ago. I have also been giving her water with probiotics which she hasn’t less of a problem taking and find it easier to swallow - don’t worry I am careful to only give it very slowly. She is still very lethargic and not eating on her own. I wasn’t wondering if there is any more I can do to help her and also how long the antibiotics will take to kick in as I really do not want to lose her :(

Also I was wondering how often I should be feeding her

I hope she perks up soon. It’s sounds like you’re doing everything right to me; keep slowly syringe feeding and offering her favourite veggies, and keep her warm and away from drafts. Good luck! :( x

All I can add is keep doing what you’re doing. It’s exhausting but little and often is the best way when they are poorly and she is not eating for herself. The antibiotics will usually take a couple of days, fingers crossed your little one perks up soon!

Thank you everyone! She is having the odd piece of lettuce but not a lot at all I am going to try and syringe feed her again soon and hopefully she gets some of her strength back x

Wishing you luck with syringe feeding. When I had to syringe feed Christian after his life saving operation last year, I was feeding him every 2-3 hours day and night and it was completely exhausting. His last syringe feed at night was 11pm and his first in the morning was 5am I just physically couldn't do the 3am feed. It would take me around 30-45 mins to feed him and it seemed like just when I had cleaned him up and washed everything up, I had to start all over again! I only syringe fed him for about 4 days but it felt like a lifetime going through it. I hope that Darcy soon is back to normal.

When my pigs are sick i had to do 15ml syringe feed before i go bed, then wake up 2hours early before i normally do for work and do another load of feed then. Then straight away when i get back from work. I was eating my own dinner whilst syringe feeding too. ( did this for a month straight 😪)So exhausting, watching netflix and syringe feeding i find is a good way to stop it seeming like such a job for you and relaxes the pig more, which is really good for helping towards their recovery aswell.

Thankyou! I hope she starts eating on her own soon very tiring having to feed her every few hours!

Just a quick update unfortunately Darcy passed away this morning at 6am :( I was getting up every three hours to feed her but when I got up at 6 she was really weak could no longer walk properly so I wrapped her in a blanket and sat her on my knee to calm her down. I am so heartbroken she was the best little pig :(

So sorry to hear you’ve lost Darcy :(
At least you were with her. RIP Darcy! Popcorn free over the Rainbow Bridge :( x

I'm so sorry for your loss. You did everything you could have done. And you were with her in those final minutes. I'm sure your presence made her feel much more relaxed. Allow yourself time to grieve and be kind to yourself. 🌈💖
