If you ask a vet for a "general health check" that's a good test of how well they know piggies, do they check back teeth and gut sounds for example? I used our first health check as a sort of vet audition to make sure they knew what to look for- teeth including back ones, weight, gut sounds, bums, toenails, heart, lungs, eyes, ears, fur... also do they talk to your piggies like they are real people! Our vets and the vet nurses talk to the piggies like they would to a dog or cat or like you would like to see a human doctor talk to a patient, it tells you quite a lot about how much they value and empathise with piggy patients![]()
Thank you! Took my guinea pig to the vets today and they didn't check all those things! If you ask a vet for a "general health check" that's a good test of how well they know piggies, do they check back teeth and gut sounds for example? Aw bless himWhere in the UK are you located? Someone on the forum may be able to point you in the right direction. Also ask what vets your local rescues use. This is what I did and found the new vets very competent and my boy came through his neuter with no complications. In fact the vet said he was very noisy and popcorning post op so they moved him to his carrier so he wouldn’t hurt himself![]()
