Guinea Pig Village is a Go!

well, i've done a bit more on this now. but my mom was too ill to drill this morning, and i can barely walk in a straight line, let alone drill in one. also, Chris wasn't here today, so i did it mostly by myself.

i put up some of the wire fencing:

but the cats can get through the gaps on this, so i put more up, overlaying it to quater the size of the gaps, cat and chicken proofing the piggie pen:

then i added a few more layers, to be sure, and it ended up like this:

then i had to start putting fixings on the gate, and put up the post for the gate to attach to:

the gate has a door handle type handle, so has a metal rod going through it. the rod was too long for the wood, so i had to cut it with a little handsaw. not sure what it was called, but like a coping saw:

so, i'm very muchly dead right now. i'm not the fittest of people (code for: i'm quite fat :p), so all this hard work is killing me off. but the gate can be put on on tuesday, as can the other side of the fencing, and then the conrete can be put down. then the actual living space will be ready for piggie occupation. my three little piggie girlies will be somewhat lost :p

however, i've just been told the four little ones that i applied to rehome can be reserved for me. the area is much better suited to seven piggies rather than 3, don't you think? :<>

WOW You guys have worked sooooo hard. Well done. I can't wait to see it all done with the piggies in it.

me neither :)) not long left to go :) then once i've put aside summer pet food money, and the adoption fees for the little ones i'm adopting, i can get onto building the shops :D
 
wow I'm so impressed! i wish i had the space to do somthing like this..it would so completly rule!-c
 
i'm quite happy, considering i hadn't even started when you came for the hutch :p but when i set my mind to something, i tend to get it done fairly quickly :))

i'm that sad, i've even decided how to keep it warm in winter. i'm going to screw fence panels to the sides to enclose it, and there's electricity going to the white shed to the right of the whole thing, so i'll hook up a mini heater etc :p
 
Wow! It's coming along really quickly!

I so wish I had space for something like this, I'm very jealous!

Really looking forward to seeing the shops :)
 
they may be a while in coming, as the donation fees of four piggies is £60,and the wood for houses is around half of that. i'd rather put off the houses than the piggies though :p they'll hopefully be done over summer though, as i'd really like for Chris to be able to help before he goes to uni.

i can't wait for the piggies x) but with 7, i'll need to bulk buy food aswell. very much worth it though. such gorgeous little critters @)

if i'm lucky, i'll be able to afford the wood soon though, which would be good :) as then i could get started
 
I'd go with piggies over wood too ;)

I know what you mean about costs though, I guess it soon adds up. But it'll be very much worth it in the end! :)
 
no step by step photos today. as i'vr been working out in the rain, and don't want to take my camera out. just another layer of fencing to add, then put the concrete down whe the rain lets up...

so, what i've done today:

tacked two layers of wire fencing to the gate, to ensure that their will be no unwanted visitors
hung the gate (with a lot of help from mom :) )
put the latch on the gate post, so a majority of the area is now enclosed
put up two layers of fencing on the other side of the area
cable-tied layers of fencing together, so as to make sure that the cats can't prise it apart to get in

all that's left to do now is one more layer of fencing, and the concreting. then i'll hopefully sort out their hutch to go in there, and it will be safe for the piggies

i am :)) i just really am tired. but i'm going for a weeks holiday on friday, and it'd be nice for my little sister to not have to walk through all of the mud in the chickens area to sort the piggies. fortunately, the plastic roofing can be bought when my money comes through on friday :)

i can't wait to see them running around in there. my three little girles are going to look SO small :))
 
well, one step closer to finishing, and with photos this time.

i got stuck in torrential rains while building the last part, so can finally relax after having a long and (i think) well earnt shower.

sorry about the bad quality of these photos, but as you can see, it'd been raining heavily, and i was trying to not let my camera get soaked :))

i'll be up at 6 in the morning so that my mom and i can do the concrete (as long as it isn't raining). then i'll have done everything humanly possible so far

to quote myself from earlier; i'm so tired @)

i think it's quite good considering it's been done over no more than half a week. though the wire fencing attacked my wrists, and made me look like a squeamish self harmer rolleyes

i'm now a happy piggie mommy sporting two bruises, a blister, and various scratches on all of my limbs xx>>>
 
Ooo its looking so good so far! I'm sure you're piggies will appreciate the cuts and bruises, and enjoy the early mornings making your piggy village so very jelous that i cannot do diy :P hope it goes all well! :)
