LMPigs
Junior Guinea Pig
Hello
We are the happy new owners of a pair of Guinea Pigs. They are 11 month old board which we adopted from a rescue 3 weeks ago today.
One question I have is about washing. We use hay as their main bedding material (they are outdoors at the moment, so as not to receive constant attention from the children).
They also have a snuggly pod bed thing - well actually two so we can wash and swap them out however, when I wash them the house and washing machine gets full of hay. We'd also wanted to use fleece over the newspaper on the floor of the hutch to extend the period between changing the whole thing, but again there is a lot of hay involved.
I'm worried this can't be good for the washing machine. Any tips?
[Just to reassure everyone as a new guinea pig owner of outdoor piggies: the hutch is fully foxproofed and we are keeping a close eye on the temperature. Currently they have loads of bedding and one of those snugglesafe hetatpads which we put out on cooler nights. The hutch is also covered with a blanket and a heavy duty tarp (just top and sides in the day, but also over the front overnight). We know they'll have to come indoors when it gets really cold. I have read all the helpful forum threads
