My guinea pig, Muffin is about l055 grams. Is that to heavy? My other piggy Marshmallow is 896 grams, is that to light or all right? They eat the same amount, (I know because I hand feed them). But Muffin is much heavier. Is she OK?

My pigs vary in weight .. all pigs do... its best to weigh each week and keep a track to ensure not too much is gained or lost!

There is no set weight for age. They come in all shapes and sizes. But as long as their heft is okay then they’re fine. As an example my sows are just under 200g difference in weight.

Hi!

Like humans, guinea pigs come in very different sizes and with very different weights.
Like with humans, there are two different measurements you need to take into account:

- the BMI (which in guinea pigs we call 'heft'), i.e. feeling around the ribcage whether a piggy is a good weight for its size at any age since like with humans weight changes actually more than you think over the course of a whole life.
This shows you whether you are dealing with a good weight for their size, or whether a piggy is overweight or underweight.

- the weekly weigh-in and health check: Once you know whether your piggies are in the right ball park, the life long weekly weigh-in and body check is there to monitor health and wellbeing, so you can spot slowly developing issues earlier on when they are usually easier to treat or keep in check.

Please take the time to read these two guide links to learn what is normal for your piggies (if necessary take pictures to use for reference) so you can spot any changes in the body or in weight quickly and learn when and how quickly you need to step in see a vet or switch to weighing daily. And from which kind of weight loss we actually start talking about weight loss. The weight guide also tells you what to look out for when checking for the heft. You may bookmark both guides as they come in very handy when you are not sure.

Guinea pig body quirks - What is normal and what not?

Your two boys are both within the normal weight range for adult piggies.

When I weighed him on Monday, he was 1567g. 😁 A few weeks ago he reached around1600g which made me so nervous! But his weight fluctuates around 1530g to 1560g.
Bruno will be glad to learn he isn’t the only big boar! He looks like a big brown bear next to Ozzy :)
He still runs just as fast, looks very funny to me

That's what makes me quite content with Rocky's weight as well. He still runs fast and he can still outrun me whenever I want to pick him up for a short cuddle. 😂 Him wobbling while running is so funny! 🤣
