Guinea Pig wheeking for food.

Hi. My guinea pigs have come to the point where they start wheeking whenever I walk by, anticipating food. I don't usually give them any snacks because I would've already given them one. However, sometimes these pigs are just too cute and I give in to the stress. Should I give it to them? When?

It’s best to keep guinea pigs in the routine of vegetables at breakfast and teatime and all otherof the times They should have the pallets and access to unlimited hay.

I know it’s tempting to feed them in between times when they start wheeking and sometimes we will give in and give them a little veggie treat but on the whole if I just go over to the girls and fluff up the hay this tends to pacify them until the next meal time.

Please stay strong and do not give in - that is a very slippery slope in terms of a good diet and in terms of your piggies ending up running you and not the other way around.

Welcome to the forum.
Your piggies are trying to train you to feed on demand.
All piggies wheek for food.
I now split their daily ration into 3 parts.
A small portion at breakfast, a token offering in the middle of the day and the main part late afternoon.
An extra handful of hay also works.

My cheeky girls are always wheeking for food whenever they hear me moving around the house. Sometimes I give in, especially when Marshmallow ist completely on her hind legs, but the only snack that they receive is a slice of Cucumber each, or I split in 3 a lettuce leave.

i know it is hard to resist but you must lol..... they always act like they are starving...

If give in, its usually small pieces of cucumber to keep them hydrated, or a hay cookie
