what does this mean? is a symptom of something?

one of the piggies i am getting has an arched back the woman says. should i be worried? I am very concerned right now :S

I'm sorry I have not heard of it either. Does she know how it became arched? was the pig born that way? can they walk ok?

nope, ive not seen him or his brother :S my concerns are growing greatly and i dont have the heart to tell the fiance what she has said until i know what maybe going on as it will break his heart to know somethingis wrong with one of our babies. he is very excited for them.

Has she taken him to the vet for a check up? If not then sorry but I would not get piggies from her.

@Gizi no, its a breeder, but I'm now thinking guinea pig mill :S we have no reccommended rescues for hundreds of miles, we do have an sspca animal shelter though about an hours drive away. Guess we will just have to wait some more.

I feel so sorry for that poor piggy. Hopefully some pigs will turn up at the SSPCA.

Good luck in breaking the news. But I wouldn't risk it. As you might end up with huge vet bills and a sick piggie. I haven't ever heard of a piggie with an arched back.

only piggy i have heard of its a youtubers 5 year old piggy and its arthritus, he has to get pain meds and isnt very mobile recently, which is what really set off my alarm bells.

I feel sorry too. Breeders are unlikely to pay vet fees as it ups their cost. After all guinea pigs are just money to be made.

I'm worried for the poor little thing. As much as I don't agree with breeders I think there are some that will seek veterinary treatment (I know of some anyway) so am hoping they are one of the better ones.

this is sad, but true :( i thought maybe she would be okay as she has only advertised a couple of litters a year, but i think i was very wrong

Sorry For what I said. I am sure you are right.

Oh bubblegum, I am so sorry to hear about the guinea pig, it must be an awful disappointment for you, hopefully your OH takes the news as well as you have.
I noticed on Caithness.org someone put a guinea up on the free ads on the 7th August and the ad was still there when I looked just now. I was seriously tempted to ring up and ask about it, but my OH was not keen.
Again I feel really bad for you, I know how excited you were to get your babies. When they do come along I know you will be a great piggie mum x

thanks @jenny57

a few tears were shed from us both, we were just so excited to extend our family (i dont want kids) with more pets. i really dont like the idea of going down the pets at home route :S if you dont mind me asking jenny were yours adopted or were they p@h?

thanks @jenny57

I am so sad you both cried. I really feel for you both. I wish there were more rescues about. Maybe a piggy train could be arranged to get you piggies. Hugs to you both.

Are you on Facebook? If so, there is a group called The Piggy Train that would possibly be able to transport pigs from a rescue to you subject to a home check. It is worth looking into. If you aren't on Facebook, Stewybus who runs it is on here and so it could still be arranged.

Hi bubblegum, my boys came from P@H. My daughter bought them when she and her fiance moved into their own house. She was told that boys got on better than girls, and was sold a really small cage for the two of them. One of them had ringworm and passed it on to my daughter. My daughter found out she had asthma and was allergic to them, so her dad and I took them on. We had always had cats and were new to piggies, so I did a lot of research, most of it on the forum, only then did I realise what bad advice my daughter had been given.
Ours is a difficult dilemma, we are so remote that there are no rescues, and from what I can see the SPCA in the Highland rarely have pigs for rehoming.
If you do decide to go down the pah route make sure that you tell the staff if you have any problems with illness that they will be paying the bill. Please let me know how you get on I can chat anytime.

So we have decided to weigh up our options.

Injoined the piggy train group, so that maybe an option. There of course is stalking the SSPCA site for piggies. Keeping an eye on caithness.org for piggies needing rehomed. Possibly P@H, we have so few options here that it maybe our only shot.

Sorry to hear about you and your daughters experiance with the pigs jenny, its things like that which make me so worried, especially since i have other pets i dont want them catching something. What is the treatment for ringworm? I have some spot on for guinea pigs as i wanted to treat the boys to be on the safe side but ring worm is different isnt it?
