Hi you all! I'm new to this site. I have a really sweet male guinea pig name oreo. We noticed back in October that he had red under his one eye while I was in a different state visiting family. We took him to a vet and she said he has cherry eye and she has never seen it in guinea pigs. She gave me eye drops to give to him. We did
That and his eye got better.. Now it's back again. Do you all have any ideas what to do about it? We don't have a Guinea pig vet where we live. The closes one is I think a hour from me.

Hi , here is a link, but it would be wise to go back to your vet ,or perhaps ask if he could send you a repeat perscription for the drops

fatty eye/pea eye

I was wondering if I could have that photograph for the medical section of the guinea pig book that I'm writing? I've written a bit about fatty eye and need a picture to go with it

I'm sorry that Oreo has got this  Get better soon buddy! :)

Panda has a little bit that looks like that. Sometimes it can be seen and other times not. Been told it's nothing harmful and it doesn't bother him.

My Nutty has it too, and it doesn't bother him. I've been told not to worry about it.

You may want to alert this to the Health section as usually people more competent hang there. Maybe you can get an in-depth response from someone there but I'll try my best.

Guinea pigs have naturally poor eyesight and I doubt this problem will blind him or have any other serious consequences. Usually it does not bother guinea pigs and treatment is not needed. Keep a close eye on it. Reminder that Cherry Eye and Pea Eye are both similar and can be confused, I believe Cherry eye can actually be painful but Pea eye usually isn't. I'm not sure though.

He was scratching his eye. It's looking a little better. I've been giving him some eye drops the vet gave us. It was still good. I'm taking him to the vet when I go see my family soon.

Is the bulge pink or white? My wills developed pink bulges on both of his eyes which we tried treating with drops and steroids but in the end he had to undergo surgical removal as they were affecting him and growing larger. I can't really see from the photo though if it's the same thing. Fatty eye is generally white and doesn't bother them x
