I came home from my Easter Day to a cage covered in what looked like mud. I gave them new treats today, from “the Easter bunny”. The treats where from a reliable source on Etsy. Anyway, he’s puffy, cold, not eating, moving very little, and making a strange noise once in a while. I’ve been giving him a few ml of water to help with dehydration, he’s accepting it. Is there anything else I can do to help him? I’m taking him to the vet ASAP tomorrow morning. Please tell me my boy isn’t going to die tonight. This is only 3 weeks into having my babies.

So sorry this is happening. Have you spoken to the vet already? I think he needs to be seen as an emergency straight away. Try to keep him warm too

Hi, I don’t know where in the world you are and how long away “tomorrow” is for You (it’s early morning in the UK) but your piggy needs veterinary medical attention immediately.

If you have any please start giving recovery food like oxbow critical care immediately. Alternatively you can mush up some pellets or poop from a healthy pig (if you have other pigs) and make a sort of mush and feed this to your sick piggy to balance their gut and to keep their gut going whilst waiting for the vet appointment., but please see an out of hours vet immediately if you can

if you scroll down a bit in the following link it explains the mushed up food:

Emergency, Crisis and Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

It’s 12 am here in California. With this virus I don’t even think there’s emergency animal care.

theres no vets open who will see him right now its almost 1 am. I was hung up on twice by the nearest vet who said no doctor would see a guinea pig. Before I asked if she knew where I could take him, she was gone. I'm a mess right now.

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, other than the advise given in the guide I linked above there isn’t much I can add until piggy is able to see the vet. It’s important to feed the mushed up pellets or poop-soup though, to keep her gut going in the meantime

Big hugs

Hi

I hope that you can have your boy seen.

Keep your boy warm but not hot; being cold is not a good sign.

Here are more practical emergency support tips (including how you can improvise if you are stuck at home and practical tips on what you can do if a guinea pig takes a turn for the worst before you can see a vet) and information on diarrhea. Use mushed up pellets to support feed and get hold of some pedialyte from a pharmacy or supermarket for potential dehydration.

I echo what has been said and assure you of my support

He died

I'm sorry for your loss :hug:and sorry to hear how unhelpful the vets were.

What was in the treats that you gave him? Maybe one of the ingredients wasn't suitable for guinea pigs.
