Hello,
My guinea pig had to go into the emergency vet a week and a half ago because he had a uri, he lost a lot of weight, wasn't eating and he went on the round of antibiotics. After a day or 2 he actually perked up, started eating more on his own (we were even giving him critical care every 4-6 hours so he could get back to his "normal" weight). Well his antibiotics finished 2 days ago and he was actually willingly eating on his own more and more, he weighed 20g from the minimum weight yesterday (he was already a little over 900 normally, but was super active always eating and happy before so we and the vet didn't see a problem with his weight if he was acting like any normal guinea).
This morning he was all puffy, in the corner and didn't even want to eat any veggies, fruit or fresh grass outside. He is breathing normally and everything but he isn't eating at all or moving. I can't bring him into the emerge vet since they said they are at full capacity. Does anyone have any ideas as to why he might have gotten worse after the antibiotics were done? (Still feeding him critical care to keep him eating and stuff)

Hi and welcome!

I am very sorry for your worries. You are quite obviously a very caring owner.

Please try to have your boy seen as soon as you can get an appointment at any vet who will see guinea pigs and step in with emergency care and feeding support asap.

It can be that the antibiotic has not been effective against that particular strain of URI (we are seeing increasing resistancy cases on here in recent years) or there is another issue going on. Only a hands-on examination at the vet's can tell you what is wrong, unfortunately. :(

Fingers firmly crossed!
