Hello,

I am looking for some advise on one of my 8 week old guinea pigs who has a very red scabby area on her back just behind her ear. I first noticed on Sunday she had a small cut, I cleaned the area and when I checked her on Monday it was very red and scabby there is also a lump underneath the area. I took her to the vets last night, they are unsure what has caused this, they have told me to clean the area daily and put some sudocream on to help. The vet does not think it is fluid but more a hard lump of skin?

She does not seem to be in any pain and is eating and putting weight on which is a good sign i hope.

Has anyone else had anything similar with their guinea's and any suggestions on any treatment which may help.

Many thanks
Emma

Hi and welcome

Could you please post a picture to give us a better idea?

Here is a picture after I have just cleaned the wound with some hibiscrub from the vets

Maybe the lump which you can see clearly and the cut area are not related. Did the vet check for fungal issues?

There is a hard lump under the red scabby area. The vet didn’t think it was fungal.

I took a closer picture this morning, the scab has started to come away a little. The small lump next to her ear has been there since we got her but does not seem to be changing, vet did not seem concerned about this. 9752BC32-0EEF-413A-9C70-C29EE990D724.webp
