Hello everyone. We badly need your advice. Although about the vet, we really can't afford it it is too expensive here in Philippines. We don't know what happened but here is the picture. She has blood inside her ear and we saw here tilt her head like she gets a stroke.

I appreciate your difficult situation regarding the vet, but any such injuries do need a hands on vet check, particularly if there are signs of head tilt issues. I’m afraid we arent vets.

Is that a wound on the piggy’s back? If so you can clean that with saline solution, but I would not be so confident to anything around the ear in case you risk dropping water into the ear.

If this piggy lives with another, is there a possibility a fight has occurred?

She lives with 2 boars. We also suspect it's from a fight. I've also been contacting vets near me, still can't find lower price. There isn't much of exotic vets here, I think that's why.

Can you confirm, is she in the same cage as the two boars?
If so, then that is a huge problem. You cannot keep any sows near a boar pair as it will cause fights and she definitely cannot be in the same cage. You can only keep one neutered boar with any number of sows. Two boars with sows does not work
Also, are the boars neutered? If not, and she has been in the same cage as them, then there is now a risk she is pregnant. Please immediately remove her from the cage and keep her entirely separately from the boars. She will need to be put onto pregnancy watch

Yes, she is. They aren't neutered yet. We've separated her after we saw her wounds. I also suspect she is pregnant, but I hope she isn't.

There is no need to get the two boars neutered if they live together. Even if they are neutered, they still cannot live with a sow as they will still fight.

I'm glad you’ve separated her. This is a collection of guides on pregnancy. How long has she been in the same cage as the boars?

You will also need to keep a close eye on the boar pair. Now they have been with a sow and potentially had fights then it’s possible their bond will be broken and they may also need to be kept separately - you could need three cages, plus plans for if pups come along.

Thank you for the information about pregnancy. She's been with them for about a month and a half. You are right about the boars, they've had fights, a lot, we sometimes separate the two of them for a day and always clean the cage, they still fight. Now that I know why they fight, I think they'll cool slowly if not, I'll separate them too.

She will have been in season several times during the time she has been in the cage with boars so it is highly likely she is pregnant.

If the boars have had had multiple fights then it’s unlikely things will get better between them, even now the sow isn’t there. Their bond is likely going to be broken and they will need to live separately.

Living arrangements going forward will depend very much upon the sexes of any pups. There are combinations which will never work ie you cannot keep three or more boars together either.

Do read the guides on the combinations of piggies which do work so you can come up with some thoughts on what to do going forward.

I agree the scars are probably from fights as 2 boars and 1 sow don’t get along I would keep them separated. Also I completely understand the vet problems same with me we don’t have enough money for vet bills.
But keep them separate and keep checking on the piggies scars they will soon heal. If she has been with non neutered boars she is probably already pregnant.

I’m so pleased you have removed her from the boys. Hopefully the wounds will heal with no issues. Keep a close eye on them. Hopefully she won’t be pregnant but chances are she will be 🙁. If you can’t afford the vet bills could you surrender her to a rescue. They will be able to treat her and pair her up with a new friend. Hopefully your two boars will get along fine now 🤞. Keep us posted.

Hi

Please read our pregnancy information and treat your sow as such unless you have babies or know for sure that she isn't pregnant by 10 weeks after the last time she was in the presence of boars. A pregnancy is unfortunately highly likely.

Key for a successful birth and an increased survival rate of mum and any pups is a good hay based diet. About every 5th birth ends with the death of pups and/or the mother, so your good care is crucial in upping the odds.
It is quite a steep learning curve for you in the coming weeks.
Please take the time to bookmark this link, read and re-read the practical step-by-step information as you go along; especially the diet, hot weather care and knowing what you can do and need to look out for: Pregnancy, Mother & Baby Care Guides

Please see a vet for the wounds. You may need an antibiotic in order to prevent the risk of abscesses in deeper full on bite wounds. Guinea pigs have always gunk in their mouths.

She's doing well now. Her other wounds are getting good after we wiped them with clean warm water but we didn't touch the ear part it's night here and the vet that we contacted wasn't available. We'll try tomorrow. She still shakes her head. My mom was thinking about buying her antibiotics chloramphenicol but we just have the capsule one. Is it ok to mix it with water and syringe feed her with it?

Don’t use the antibiotics you have. It’s not a good idea to home treat. As said above, please consider surrendering her to a vet or someone if you can’t afford vet fees. There will likely be more piggies in future so if you’re struggling now, it won’t get easier once pups arrive. Sorry you ended up in this situation.

Hopefully you’ll be able to get her to the vet tomorrow.
