Guinea pig

You will probably need to make a donation. I expect they will suggest an amount. Is there no proper rescue local to you? Have a look at the Rescue Locator at the top of the page. If you can get a piggie from one of those, it will be properly quarantined, not pregnant and well.

I adopted two of mine from there, and they do ask for a donation. They suggested £10 per piggy to me about August last year. As Betsy says, a rescue is better if you can. I adopted my other three from the SSPCA, and they suggested a £15 donation. The piggies from SSPCA were properly sexed, and well cared for. The two from P@H were both very matted, and both lost around 100g when I got them, which suggests they were getting the wrong food previously. I also suspect they were very wrong about their ages. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I got Bobby and Bailey, and they are very healthy piggies, but they could just as easily have been ill, wrongly sexed, pregnant etc. Ultimately it's up to you, but you don't have the same peace of mind when you adopt from P@H, and you have to be prepared for them to be ill or poorly cared for previously. Good luck
