"Guinea pigs abandoned in crisp boxes in heatwave"

I know, like that's the sort of temperatures that had me paying just to move the goblins out of the worst of the heat, I'm grateful someone found them in time at all. Such lucky wee ones :(

Jesus. I worry I'm not a good pet owner but then... not in a million years would I consider this. I am really sympathetic to the cost of living atm (I don't think many people are getting through this unscathed), but we have so many rescues in this country, so many options to explore before "I'll dump them in a park on a hot day with no water, maybe they'll die of exposure before the foxes get them overnight". I don't understand.

I don’t understand why they can’t just give them up to a local rescue, most cities have atleast one area for pets without homes, why cant you take that one extra step to ensure they are safe. Worst case scenario leave them outside if you really have to…

I feel so helpless that so many pigs are living with a**se h*les like this. Knowing how amazing they are, it just hurts my heart that such wonderful creatures don’t get treated as such. Some people have no shame.

It’s so cruel.

I think you answered your own question there, unfortunately. This doesn't even feel like "oops I left an intact male with my females and I don't know how I let it get so bad". It feels far more malicious than that.

Rescues have a long waiting list for surrenders, they are swamped (all types of animals). The people who get animals on a whim, don't research how much work and expense there is involved in keeping them are not going to wait months and months for a rescue place. It's so much easier to dump them and let someone else/nature sort out the problem.

Sadly this is often the case.
