My guinea pig had an abcess on his chin that we were going to get checked out. However, I was out running errands today, and when I got back, it looked like his abcess had burst. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow. A bunch of white gooey stuff came out, and it seems like the bump is almost completely gone. It doesn't seem painful to him, but who knows? Guinea pigs are good at hiding sickness and pain. Is there anything I should do for him meanwhile? I'm cleaning the area to make sure he doesn't get an infection right now.

Update: he's still eating and drinking. I clipped back the fur in the area, and gently wiped off the white stuff. I found the small hole where the discharge stuff came out, and tried to clean around the area.

Poor little piggie, I hope it's not hurting him. Did the gunk that came out smell horrible? If so then it was/is an abscess, if not, it could be something else.
@furryfriends (TEAS) is the Abscess Queen, the go-to person for all things abscess-related round here, hopefully she can advise you what you need to do. I'm thinking the hole may need to be cleaned to stop more infection getting in, but I'm not sure. Best of luck sorting it out!

@Qualcast&Flymo

It had a bit of a smell to it, but it wasn't super strong. I did clean around the hole with warm water, but hesitated to clean the hole itself.

Hopefully someone with more medical knowledge will be along soon to give you the best advice. I've never experienced an abscess myself , touch wood I never do 🤞

Please see a vet tomorrow to have the cyst (which it sounds rather like than an abscess) checked; burst cysts can also get infected.

It sounds more likely to be a cyst. Was what came out of it, like a toothpaste consistency? It may be an abscess, as not all abscesses smell awful, although most do. Definitely get it checked, by a vet, tomorrow!

Yeah I'd say toothpaste consistency, maybe a little thinner. He had one there before, and a vet made an incision, which let all the stuff out. He gave us antibiotics afterward, and it went away for a few weeks, but then it came back.
