Hi!

I Always sit on the floor when i have some cuddle time with my Guinea pigs (6 months now). I am sooo affraid They Will jump from the sofa (couch) if i have them in my lap there.

What is your experince with having Guinea pigs in the sofa for example? Will they all of a sudden just jump of from it? Or do They see that it is to high up for them?

I have had the odd piggy jump off our sofa onto carpet over the years when they had had enough or were very adventurous (especially during a large group photoshoot), but none of them has ever come to harm as it wasn't a blind panic jump and the piggy could see where it was jumping to. Most piggies don't want to risk it, though!

My piggies have never jumped off the sofa. They've crawled to the edge but I always encourage them to move back.

The only time I've had a piggie make a leap from the sofa was when she was really young and skittish and one of the kids leaned over the back of the couch to look at her and spooked her, inspiring her to make a blind dash onto the floor. Otherwise they seem to mind the edge. I wouldn't leave them up there unsupervised just in case, but none of my pigs have been that adventurous!

I had a piggy in the past, Meemee, who jumped from the sofa a lot! First time we realised this was when we were feeding her on the sofa (she had dental problems) and I forgot to get something in the kitchen. I left her for probably a few seconds only and she was gone when I got back! The little rascal jumped! We've seen her do this a few times. The way she did it was she would slide down the edge forward until she reached halfway down and jump (which lessened the impact of jumping). She was pretty clever thinking it honestly. That's why we could never leave her by herself or be distracted at all whenever we sat with her.

This was Meemee.

Usually if I have more than one piggy on the sofa I sit on the floor in front of them in case anyone makes a leap for freedom. No pig has ever tried, but gymnastics expert flying Piggle can't really be trusted! And Jezzy floof is so abnormally long (about 35cm) that if she stretches out she is almost on the floor anyway :)

When my sow Dot was young, she jumped off of my bed, and landed down the side of my bedside chest of drawers and got wedged. But no harm done, as they get older I thin they become more aware of dangers like this. I do hear guinea pigs have bad depth perception though, so maybe its best to keep an eye

My old boys Mac and Guy both used to jump off our sofa when they were done with a cuddle and wanted to go for a roam. They'd either walk to the end and then sort of slide odd or we'd catch them first.

Even when Mac went blind he was still jumping off the sofa.

My boys now won't though, although Pickett has taken himself down the stairs once or twice. I think it just depends how confident they are and how high it is!
