Hello, I was just wondering can a guinea pig ever have to many vegetable because we have no food in for a day or two and I was wondering in the meantime, if I could feed them veggies til then. This is not in an overfeeding sort of perspective.

I assume you mean pellets/muesli when you say - no food. I still regard myself as new to piggie ownership so can't answer your question fully but, Yes, you can feed too many vegetables. I think the main problem with giving too many is that it could give them a stomach upset.

I have heard of some forum members who give little or no dry food and rely fully on fresh veggies and hay. As long your guinea pigs have access to unlimited hay and have fresh veggies twice daily, they will be fine for a few days. Just make sure some of the veggies are rich in vitamin C - such as bell peppers.

Where do you live by the way?

Thanks so much! I have access to guinea food. And I don't think I can give that information out. Sorry! But thanks as well :)

Hi there & welcome to the forum :wel:

Don't worry, we don't want or expect you to put your exact location, just your country &/or county is enough information, its just to help give out relevant advice for your general area, vet specialists & guinea providing companies mainly, etc.
if you are a minor well done for being cautious though, very sensible of you.
mine is North Dorset, England. & PiggieOwners is sheffield, South yorkshire, uk that is all thats needed.

unlimited hay & fresh water are essentials, a handful of veggies a day is a minimum & i give around 40-50g of nuggets a day for two guineas. Grass in the summer (gradually built up over a few weeks after the winter shortage)
Too much veg or grass etc at once can cause diarrhea or Bloat which may be fatal in some cases. remember to add green foods or new foods gradually this should prevent or drastically reduce these sort of problems

for more expert advice try the food link on the main forum page.http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/forums/food.17/

PS i think one of the forum rules states posting lots of piggy pigtures if you can too:cool::whistle: :lol!:
xx

Sorry if I wasn't clear - it's just useful to know roughly what part of the world you live in.

and, we'd all love to see some pictures ...
