Hello,

I bought my 4year old. 2 female guinea pigs a month ago tomorrow. They are still very skittish when trying to get them out of their cage. However they are now starting to be already waiting out of their hideout in the mornings when I come downstairs. And today whilst we had them out my daughter had one and I had the other but the one my daughter was holding came over to me and sat with the other on my lap. Is this a sign they are starting to recognise me because I’m feeding them? And will they stop being so skittish around me and my daughter when we get them out.

Our 2 girls are called Marmalade & Marmite
However Marmalade is quite bigger than Marmite so I’m not sure how old they both are but I’m not sure if it’s because they’re a different breed. Marmalade is the ginger one and Marmite is black with a peach coloured bottom.

Hi and welcome!

It is not easy to tell from your pictures what the black and white one it, but your golden is either an abyssinian or an aby cross. Great colour!

Please take the time to read our New Owners guide collection. It has a whole section specially for settling, making friends with and picking up guinea pigs safely, including some very effective piggy whispering tips and lot of other time tested tips! They look like they have the food routine down already!
The collection also contains a parents guide and an age appropriate interaction guide for childen together with understanding behaviours, care tips, diet and housing information as well as guides to help you learn what is normal and what not, how to monitor weight and health and spot any signs of illness early on. The collection addresses specifically all the areas we get the most questions and concerns about.
Getting Started - New Owners' Most Helpful Guides

We strongly recommend that all new owners should double-check the gender of their piggies. Our illustrated sexing guide tells you exactly where to look and what to look for. Mis-sexing is sadly not at all uncommon.

Please also start saving up for vet care as part of their weekly/monthly living cost so you can see a vet any time.

The smaller black, white and peach one’s coat is a lot softer than Marmalade’s ( golden guinea ) hers is quite rough.
