Guinea pigs catching colds

It is possible for a piggy to catch a cold from their mum? I am absolutely loaded at the moment @) and I have noticed one of my piggies (unsure which) is sneezing his head off :^-.

I have heard that piggies can catch colds from their owner but I don't know how much truth there is in this

There was a similar thread not long ago and If I remember rightly they can catch bacterial Infections but the common cold is exclusively a human virus

They can catch some colds, it depends what the cold is caused by, so its best to stay away from your piggies when your ill. When a guinea pig gets a 'cold' its usually very serious and if you've noticed your piggie sneezing I'd take them straight off to the vets,

Yep. Guinea pigs don't get colds, they get upper respiratory infections which are almost always bacterial. Colds are a human thing.

I am not a Vet but I know when I am sick my pigs seem to get that way also

I was also told that pigs can catch colds from humans.will ask at work and see

I was told that piggies cannot catch human colds - again only bacterical respiratory infections.

Thanks for your useful advise as I have now have a chest infection and pleurisy I am avoiding picking them up which is so hard and Sparky in particular is finding it hard poor lad.

I worked out that it was Tommy sneezing, Tommy is prone to sneezing fits so I am keeping a close eye on him but he's eating well.
