hi
my 3 male guinea pigs are boiling in this weather and scruffy, my guinea pig is really tired and the other 2 are eating his fur is this normal?
we are giving them ice packs and shade any other ideas ?
thanks:)p

no, he is not being bullied, my two other piggys adore scruffy and it is often them who argue over who gets to be his best friend!
it is more like scruffy is lying down and either pepper or brandi will be sitting next to him and will go and have a little nibble at his fur. he doesnt seem annoyed or in pain its just they have never done it before and i dont know why his fur is suddenly so tasty!:...
can i also just mention that the have 3 water bottles filled with cold water and they just dont seem to notice them! they always drink water and i thought with the weather being so hot they would drink loads but they were all still full when i came home! and when i got the bottle and put it right in front of their nose they started drinking for AGES as though they had never seen it before!
we are using loads of ice packs, cardboard houses for shade, there is also plenty of shade, they have cucumber, lots of water (which they wont drink!) etc but it is still boiling and theyre still miserable! what should i do?

I'd bring them indoors to keep them cool - beware of them getting heat exhaustion. It really is not worth putting them at risk :...

Just read that piggies who are too hot will not go to the water bottle because they are just too hot to move :...

My 18 are kept indoors where it is cool all day and I give them lots of refreshing veggies/fruit etc. Melon, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, romaine are all good sources of water (I actually allowed them to nibble on some iceberg from a bag of mixed salad yesterday...normally take it out :x)
Pop dishes of water in for them too - it is so important to keep them hydrated and as cool as possible - signs of listlessness/lethargy are not good and could be signs of heatstroke :...
Best to pop them outdoors early morning or late evening - never put them out all day in the hot midday sun :)
