Guinea Pigs Eye Has White Spot

Hi, please see the above links of my photos above!

I have 2 male guinea pigs around 2 years old now. I was playing with them one Friday and I noticed one of pigs has a white blob in his eye, it doesn't seem red or irritant around the eye but I al concerned as to what this could be? Can anyone suggest what this might be? I am going to take him to the vets but can't get him there till next weekend. It doesn't seem to be bothered him in any way just would like to know if any owners have experience the same thing?

Hello, Welcome to the forum. Sorry to see your piggie has an eye issue.

It could be an eye poke and if this is the case he needs to see the vet as soon as possible to begin treatment. I am tagging in some of our medical experts for their view

Hi! It rather looks like it is sitting on the surface of the eye and could be an ulcer from an eye injury, either a scratch or a hay poke, but it is difficult to tell from your picture and without having the equipment that a vet has to have a good look at the eye.
It would be good to please have him seen by a vet as soon as you can; the correct eye drops/gel should hopefully sort it out pretty quickly; the sooner it is treated, the quicker.

Thank you very much for your response! He will definitely be going to vets! No way am I risking anything to do with his eyes! I hope it will only require drops and no surgery tank you! I will update details now!

We have had hay pokes before and prompt treatment with drops and antibiotics have resulted in our piggies been okay.

Nico had one of these all his life. Never bothered him. Vet said it was just an abnormality in the shape of his iris. Could it be that you just haven't noticed it before? Do get him looked at just to be sure.

Same here. Eye injuries tend to heal rather quickly, nearly as quickly as they come on. But in order to prevent bacteria getting into the eye, it is important to treat any injuries as promptly as possible.

My Bedo has an opaque area on top of his eye, which doesn't bother him, but it has been vet checked and declared harmless by a vet before he was given the ahead for an adoption by the rescue I rehomed him from. it is however hardly noticeable compared to yours.

I thought maybes I hadn't noticed IT before so I double checked through other photos of him and it's not there so must be a recent thing

Defintiely need a vet visit to examine what it is and check it is not an injury....however to be honest it looks like something "on top" of the eyeball.
Carson has something that looks similar....at first I thought it was a bit of eye milk that had got stuck on the eyeball as it appeared quite suddenly.
Vet examined it and felt it was a fatty accumulation and currently no need to do anything about it.

Hi

It may be calcium deposits. I have had several with this and my current girl, Lacey has them severely. All guineas that had them had issues processing calcium (stones etc). I don't want to be alarmist as hers were very rare but... They turned into a boney growth within her eye which resulted in her losing one of her eyes.

The other is now bad but she is on anti inflammatory eye drops for the rest of her life to limit internal damage through swelling. The calcium blocks the internal eye drainage resulting in pressure build up, internal bleeding and ulcers.

As said, it's highly unlikely and I don't want to scare you (!) but get it checked out ASAP and watch their diet for high calcium foods.
