We have noticed something on our Guinea pigs nail - unsure what it is, he's not in pain with it, walks normally but it hard around the nail. See the pictures. Can anyone shed any light as to what it is?
Hi and welcome. I'm not a medical expert and haven't come across this one before so I will leave it to others to provide more help but maybe have a google on bumble foot for some images. So far as I know that normally affects the feet pads rather than nails and it doesn't look like this is on the foot pad at all so I'm not saying that's what this is, just wondering if that can ever affect the nail only.
Another option might be a fungal nail infection.
If it's just on the nail and only the bit after the quick, maybe try cutting it off? But maybe wait to see what more experienced people on here think before doing that.
Main thing is always if in doubt take a visit to the vets.
Looks like some poo to me! Try using your nail and picking it off, one of my girls has nails that grow in all directions due to not having them trimmed regularly before coming to live with me- she gets this caught in the arch under her nails which i jusy pick off.
Ofcourse if it is stuck to the skin, soak a cloth in warm water and hold it around the foot for a minute before trying to clean it off.
