So i've recently noticed that all of my piggies are getting a little bit tubby. They get out in their run everyday(If it's not raining). But they just seem to eat the grass as opposed to exercising. They get 40gms of nuggets a day(between 2), and fresh veg&salad everyother day.
Question being: Can you put guinea pigs on a diet or is it cruel?

It's certainly not cruel, being overweight/obese is detrimental to their health. You didn't mention hay in your feeding regime, their diet should consist primarily of hay and this shouldn't be restricted but you can reduce the quantity of nuggets and amount of grass they get if they need to lose weight. Are you sure they are fat? Piggies can be pretty heavy and look fairly chubby without being overweight.

Yes my piggies tend to just eat the grass:(|) Although they do bomb it up and down their ramp everyday:(|)

I worry that mine are getting a little bit too big, they have a handful of hay, some veg at tea time and pellets, i really don't know how to restrict their diet sometimes because i feel i limit them as it is sometimes. Think their just 'big boars'. Our sows weight is fine, i think the boars are just greedy, very greedy. Also remember some breeds are bigger than others!

How old are your piggies? As its best not to restrict their diet whilst their still growing!:)

they have unlimited hay all the time.
I'm not going to put them on an extreme diet. Probaly wont even bother to be honest, just wondered whether it was classed as cruel lol.
Mine are all different ages. Between 2yrs - 5months approx...
Bubble&Squeak(The eldest pair) are the tubbiest.
But i love them all the same.! and mine are all boars aswell. And very greedy, must be a man thing :/

How much do they weigh? That will be the best way to tell if they are overweight.

I've never weighed them i dont own a pair of scales @)..
Must invest in some x
