Guinea pigs in my daughters bedroom for winter

Our guinea pigs are in the house for winter, they usually have a 6x4 run and hutch when they are outside for summer ..
They are now in my daughters room and don't seem very happy they are rattling at each other and are not popcorning around like they are outside..
They are in a 4x2 now not ideal I know but we haven't really got that much room available inside, I must add though when my daughter in her room they have the run of her bedroom.
I cleaned them yesterday with all new fleece bedding but I can smell them a bit today, do you think they should be done daily when inside?

I've got newspaper then fleece blanket then some vetbed, what can I put on the floor to protect the wooden flooring ?

My guinea pigs are kept indoors all year round. I clean them out every 2 - 3 days - by the 3rd day they are starting to smell a bit and they certainly wouldn't last any longer than that. I have a layer of newspaper, megazorb and then hay on the top.

My girls have the run of the flat - whenever I'm in I have the cage door open and they can come/go as they please. I have been fortunate enough that they will go back in their cage to do their business. I used make up a playpen area for them and I put towels down for them when I done that but it might be a bit difficult to cover the whole bedroom. What about trying to toilet train them?

i put down a thick piece of plastic - actually it was some damp-proof course membrane (my husband is a builder!) but you could try some lino, you would get a remnant piece cheap enough probably. I change my two boys every couple of days as i can start to smell them too.

you could also try a few litter trays dotted about lined with newspaper,shavings then hay on top, mine tend to stop by for the hay and whether coincidence or otherwise i don't know but they seem to do their business at the same time!
