We keep our piggies in my 5 year old daughter’s bedroom. We bought 2 females, but now we have 5 piggies in there as one was pregnant. They are in a 6x2 c&c cage and I use fleece liners. I clean the entire cage about every 5 days and have smaller fleece pads in the high potty areas that I change out about every 2 days. I also vacuum poops twice a day. I think I keep an exceptionally clean cage if I do say so myself lol. Anyway, my mom is really concerned that it is not healthy for my daughter to be breathing in all the hay and poop and pee all night while she is sleeping. Does anyone have any opinions or information on this? My mom is very allergic to the piggies and breaks out in hives, so I think she is just overly cautious. My daughter has not shown any signs of allergies or any problems.

I grew up with pigs in my bedroom and I was okay. I haven't got any allergies to them so being near to the hay has been fine.

I grew up with all sorts in my bedroom, gerbils, hamsters, rats, any of the guineas if they were sick..and a chipmunk. Never did me any harm. I am allergic to hay but used to give it to the gerbils and chipmunk all the time to build nests, I just made sure to take my medication for it. If your daughter has no allergies personally id say it was fine :)

I agree with the above posts, I’ve had pets in my room for years and never had any problems. This includes hamsters and a pygmy hedgehog so using similar bedding to what I use for piggies and it’s never caused any breathing problems or anything :D
