Hi, so I was browsing on pets 4 homes last night and I came across somebody giving away Guinea pigs. I’ve asked her how many she has got and there is about 10 she said. They are living in hamster cages. 10 is allot of pigs and taking another 10 on top of the 14 I’ve already got is probably not good idea but I feel so guilty about not doing anything at all.
She lives in Rhyl, wales.
Just after advice on what should I do about it or if any one else can help.
Thanks

Hi, unfortunately free ads are not allowed to be posted on the forum.

You could try to contact a rescue near them or perhaps the RSPCA.

You didn't post a link, sorry I do not have my thinking hat on.

I would still recommend to try reach out to a local rescue near them or report the ad to the site.

The problem here is not knowing why the piggies are being given away. A lot of times it's breeders trying to offload their "faulty" and no longer needed stock. You might be rescuing a piggy or two just for new ones to be popped in to their old hamster cage home.
Best case scenario is that this is accidental breeding that got out of hand and the piggies won't be replaced after being rehomed.
Worst case scenario is you end up with a lot of ill piggies that someone lied about to offload them on you and you could be racking up £100's per pig to get them well.
Then there's the scenarios in between.

I always find it best not to look on freead sites, you can't save every pig. I would always recommend, if you have the time, space and money for more, to adopt from a reputable rescue where you can be sure of the background and ongoing support. That will free up space at the rescue for the next piggy in need so you won't just save 1-2 pigs, you'll actually help save 2-4.

Hi. Thanks for reply. I know that looking on the pets for homes site is a very bad habit of mine and I need to stop looking 😢
I actually went and collected 3 pigs. They were very nice people but I think the situation definitely just got out of hand. I just explained these they were probably best to reach out to a rescue instead of giving them away for free hopefully they took my advice.
The three little pigs are doing well. Apart from living in hamster cages they seemed to be looked after well. Good weight they had hay pellets and said they love their veg which they do.

Hopefully you have hit one of the best case scenarios 🤞 I did similar with one last male on gumtree years ago and was told he was around 10 weeks old. I thought I would practice sexing a young male but when I picked him up he was very, very obviously male and obviously much older than I had been told 🤣 there was definitely no guess work needed

Good on you for taking them in, at least now three have a happy and secure future x

those sites are real heartbreakers 😔
