Hi all, I've had my guinea pigs (Peanuts and Geronimo) for 2 years now, and I've always provided them with fresh water, yet I have never in my experience of caring for them seen them drink. Is it possible that they only drink at night, or get enough water from the vegetables I feed them?

Thank you!

Check the bottles are working correctly.

But after 2 years I'm sure they must be.

They can get water they need from veggies. How often do you feed them?

You can put a bowl of water in for them as it's easier for them to drink from. But it does need a changed regularly if it becomes dirty.

Hi, it is possible that they aren't thirsty, especially if you give them a lot of watery vegetables (like cucumber). My piggy almost never drinks water during summer because he eats a lot of veggies, but I've noticed he drinks much more during winter.
Anyways, you can check their water bottles every day to see if there's less water than the previous day :)

Thank you! I do put a bowl of water for them too in case they don't know what the water bottle is. I feed them twice a day :)

Thank you! I do, and it seems to go down a bit but I never hear or see them drinking, so I don't know whether it just leaks or evaporates or something. I do give them lettuce and carrot.

My son is very worried that his pig hasn't learned to drink in the store. WE've just brought the pig home and she doesn't seem to know where the bottle is.

If she's still settling in she maybe too nervous to have a drink. Try putting a bowl of water in closer to her hiding place
