Hiya, I am quite new to the forum and would like some advice on what to do as my guinea pigs are not eating very much hay. My boar eats a lot but my sows are not as keen. I feed them this years hay from a local farm. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Reduce your amount of nuggets you feed? I usually feed mine an egg cup full per piggie per day. Some piggies can unfortunately be fussy with hay. Also do you feed from racks or on the ground? As some prefer racks and some love to forage on the ground.

I put it in racks so they dont wee/poo all over it 😂 . I have dotted it around their enclosure a couple of times and they seemed more interested. I will try reducing their nuggets and take it out the hay racks. Thank you for the advice x

Hi!

Please only feed 1 tablespoon of pellets per piggy per day and not more than 50g of veg or less per piggy per day.

Some of my own piggies eat less and some eat more hay even though they are all fed the same.
As long as both are fine in themselves, then you do not need to worry lots.

Hiya, thank you for all the advice. I have checked on the girls this morning and they have eaten lots of their hay. Even though it might have a bit of poo and wee on it 😂 .

As well as the above advice about reducing nuggets - try differnt hays. Mine get mostly meadow as I buy big bales but they also get oat hay and timothy aswell as occassional readigrass. It keeps them interested. I also sprinkle forage on.
