My Guinea pigs are something else 😹 Miko, my younger piggy, likes to latch onto the bars with his teeth and rock back and forth until he pulls it and it rattles whenever he wants feeding. I know for a fact it’s not stress because he only does it at certain times such as when it gets darker (because they get fed in the evening) or if I lay in bed because he thinks I’m going to sleep and I’ll forget to feed him (even though I’ve literally only ever forgotten once and it was because I was throwing up everywhere😭)

Chiko, the older piggy and usually the smarter one, started copying him but he hasn’t picked it up fully and just chews the bars and he looks so confused when Miko stops shaking it like ā€œwhy’s it stopped making the noise?ā€ And I don’t even think Chiko really knows why he’s doing it he just follows Miko😹

But Miko is very persistant and it’s hard to ignore so he’s slowly been bringing food time earlier and earlier

Does anyone else’s Guinea pigs have funny quirks like this?

I fostered a boar pair a couple years ago, and one loved to lick.
He would be very unsettled and stressed from time to time until you allowed him to lick you and your clothes for a bit.
We tried rubbing his friends, private areas, on a small teddy and seeing if that would work but nothing did it as well as the human skin… i guess.

Once we ruled out any medical issues, it seemed it was just his fun little quirk.

I think it was just cleaning and general pig to pig interaction that his cage mate just did not tolerate, but it was quite sweet.
When they eventually got adopted, it was somewhat to the fact his new parents found the sensation of a little guinea pigs tongue on their hands quite funny, and I am very glad to say they were over the moon to take ā€œMr.Lickā€ as we called him and his friend home.

One of mine is a bar rattler 😬 only in the 30 minutes before usual food time. How do they know?
