hi, i hope ive put this in the right subject.
my friend has 2 guinea pigs which both seem really healthy and they are huge and well looked after, but she mentioned today while my two were squeaking for britain that one of hers has never squeaked.

i found this really strange and asked why she thought this might be. she said maybe it was deaf but i thought if it was it might still be able to make some sort of sound. my friend said that she sometimes hears a breathing noise that she thinks may be an attempted squeak. she has asked the vet about it but apart from admitting that it was strange he didnt have an answer.

i wondered if any one here might have any ideas or experience that might help. i just find it strange as ive never heard of a non squeaking guinea before and cant help but try and investigate!
the guineapig is a year old by the way

Many pigs do not squeak very often or even not at all. Others will squeak more than enough, especially at feeding times. It is all part of a normal variation.

My Huxley has never squeaked as such. On the odd occasion he makes a little whimpering noise when he's excited but that's it. There are too many other loud-squeaking piggies taking the squeak limelight in the shed :))

thanks for your comments. i didnt realise that some guineas didnt squeak as mine have always been so noisy! thats that cleared up then!

I have two piggies living together, Sparky is the loudest, in your face, gobbiest pig I have ever met where as Harry his cage mate is as quiet as the Sinstine Chapel and rarely squeaks some people hold the opinion that its becasue he can't get a word in edge ways, even when Harry does squeak its almost apologetic

mine dont squeak they will chatter away to each other but thats about it, i envy people who have houses full of squeaks and wheeps

When my Connie was alive, Eliza only used to squeak occasionally and even then you could hardly here it. Connie would shout at the top of her lungs and Eliza would just kind of whimper. When Connie died :( we rescued Eleanor. Since Eliza and Eleanor have been living together, Eliza seems to have found her voice and is a lot more vocal than she used to be. In fact, her and Ellie have competitions to see who can squeak the loudest :))

Well my Betty, I have never ever heard her squeek. She talks a lot, but squeek, never.

I wonder if American pigs have a different accent from English pigs!!?
