Chatting to a colleague yesterday from our toys dept, she told me that this is the next big toy for Christmas and it’s a Guineapig toy!
You take care of it and it has three babies, could be a great alternative to parents actually buying their children live guineapigs!

i have two thoughts on this.It could be used as an educational toy.it may also increase the sale of guinea pigs ,as its seen as cute.not always for the right reasons. To give an example..meercats used in a popular advert increased a need for some to want meercats without giving any thought to how to keep these animals correctly.i agree guinea pigs are much easier to care for.there maybe parent pressures to go out and obtain a cute guinea pigs.i have mixed feelings.

I am with Eileen on this one.

The toy seems like a good idea, but it worries me how it portrays guinea pigs in a tiny cage as something to be brushed and dressed up, without making any real effort to educate as well.
I know it's dull but I sometimes wonder if the manufacturers (who are clearly going to make a bucket load of money out of this) couldn't enclose a small leaflet saying something along the lines of - thank you for purchasing this guinea pig toy today. We hope you enjoy it. Did you know that in real life guinea pigs require - insert long list of space, diet and vet requirements here- and because of this many real guinea pigs end up in rescue. 5% of the profits from the sale of this toy will be donated to real life guinea pig rescue groups.

Yes I complete agree that was my initial reaction when she told me about it, I’m hoping that it will be a good you want a Guineapig… here is a toy instead, but it certainly could lead onto something bad. It also costs more than a real Guineapig as well!

My daughter saw me reading this thread and said that is the toy she wanted for Christmas. I don't think I will get it for her as I can get a guinea pig stuffed animal for much cheaper and it doesn't require batteries. I guess I just view this toy as a toy not as an learning toy. It's like the "live" baby dolls they sell in the store. But I know there will be a small amount of people that will feel like they need to buy their child a real guinea pig because of this toy.

How long will it take for the child to be want8ng a real one? and the totally irresponsible parents will be saying “of course you can have one dear! 🙄
