Found this while looking for piggy pics :(
These piggies live on the floor in a peruvian home. They are bred for meat but the animals arn't kept properly. You can see a good few are pregnant and some may be deformed. Makes me mad how people keep their animals. Even abroad :tickedoff:

Just goes to show how lucky ours are :smitten:

How Awful! It's makes me sooooooo angry to see pictures like this! >:( I just want to take them all home and give them some proper care. How can anyone do these things to such beautiful animals! Infuriating! >:( :'(

Bear in mind that while we wouldn't eat our pets here, they are a staple food for people in Peru. Think about how chickens are kept here... we eat cows yet they are worshipped in other cultures...

Those guinea pigs look better cared for than some of the ones kept as pets in the UK.

To be honest I thought they looked quite chunky. Their fur looks nice and shiny and thick. I havent seen one that is deformed either. When you think of it they arent pets they are a food item, so they wouldnt be lasting very long anyway. The more meat on them the better they are for eating, so they wouldnt want thin animals.

I agree - it's their quality of life that counts. Most meat sold in UK is factory farmed, at least these are in a group and probably have places to hide.

It's always sad seeing animals that will be killed for food - I'm assuming you're vegetarians Peppapunk & Fuzzy?

Actually they are jsut food in Peru it is like someone said above us eating chicken etc.

They do actually care about them and try to keep them in good condition just so that they are better to eat.

My sales manager ate guinea pig while he did a trek in South America. Apparently it's an acquired taste.

I won't be rushing to try it anytime soon!

I agree with what everyone here has said, have you seen the way cows and chickens are kept in this country? Now that is horrific! :'( But I love meat and am never going to be a veggie, if they were kept in better conditions, food would cost us more money I guess! :-\

You can still be an ethical meat eater O0 Free range / organic is much better raised in far superior conditions than typical factory farmed meat. Personally, I tend to appreciate the meat that is provided for us, and I will always pay more for the small amount of meat I buy. If I can no longer afford it I will simply buy even less. :)
