First I just want to state that if there is any complaints or anything, Admin, feel free to remove this post. I have met the odd person who is extremely against any form of showing. Pet or otherwise.

Over the weekend I attended one of the local pet shows. The Northern and Far North Rabbit and Cavy Clubs will often hold pet shows during the year and last weekend was the Far North Clubs first ever pet show so I thought I would take some of my animals along and support them.
To explain how these pet shows work, they are just for the fun. There is the slightly serious class which is judged by the written standard but then there are "duplicate classes" which are things like "Miss/Mr Guinea Pig" for the most feminine or masculine, the biggest guinea pig, the most mischievous and so on. Any one can bring their animals along, desexed or not, chewed or not, as long as they pass the vetting in, they are more than welcome.

This particular one that I went to over the weekend didn't have the duplicate classes and while it was judged slightly to standards, it was more about which guinea pig would make the best pet. Who was the friendliest and so on.

I decided to take along 4 of my guineas (along with 4 mice and one of my rats) and I ended up walking away with a few ribbons :)

Abby and Athea, my sisters, walked away with 1st and 2nd in the roughcoat class. Since 1st place is the only one with a ribbon, here is Athea showing off her pretty ribbon x>>

I also took Tobi and Chip along. Chip merely came for the company because I know he gets a little scared when he is taken away from Tobi for to long. Tobi ended up placing 1st in the longcoat class and very proudly walked away with the "Best in Show" ribbon.

And towards the end of the day (well, it actually ended around midday), Tobi and Chip were tired and decided to relax and stretch out in their cuddle sack :D

As Weibke said, they don't allow discussions about things like that here

Anyway, what cuties your piggies are. Congrats on those ribbons. It looks like they had a busy exciting time. I wouldn't take any of my boys, Basil would very likely chew on something he shouldn't and it wouldn't be fun for me, but I understand that some people do enjoy it.

Fine. As stated, admin, delete this post.
I did not realise that what I was putting my guineas through was such a horrible thing. They go in a carrier for the drive and if you wish, you can bring a large pen along so you can put your guineas out on the lawn while they are not needed. They are on the table for less than a minute and then, if the owner so wishes, they can leave.

Nobody is "having a go" at you - it's just that the Forum rules forbid discussion about showing guinea pigs, that's all.

I never said anyone was having a go at me. I just dislike that no matter what the show does to cater to a guinea pigs needs, it's still classified as a horrible thing to do.

Beautiful piggies x)

But I am going to have to close this thread, due to forum rules. Please don't be offended by this.
