When leaving their cage door open they began by coming out on their own but for just a few steps. Then they began exploring the living room and found they loved being under the sofa. Next it was the kitchen..........now they don't want to return to their cage at all and slept under the sofa last night.

Is it OK to leave them out of their cage overnight?

Thanks all.

If you are going to let your guinea free roam your house i would guinea proff it so they can only go exploring where you want them to! also need to make sure they can't nibble anything dangerous like wires or bottles of chemicals. If you have them littertrained i think it is ok to let them loose but i would not want to be standing in piddles and poop all the time too unhygienic for me :))

mine refuse to get back in their cage when they've been playing out! i think as long as you piggy proof the area they should be fine, although could get a bit smelly if they're not trained and you dont have wooden flooring! :)) maybe make a small run area, so they are in one place but still think they have the freedom. i do put my boys back in at night, just for my own peace of mind, also, watch they're not munching on your sofa from underneath...i have to buy a new one :(|)

With my eight piggies roaming the living room during the day (they can get into the rest of the house, but don't), I do serve an eagerly awaited little "night night tidbit" of cucumber and celery in the cage every night. My piggies usually turn themselves in now out of habit anyway. No chasing around at all!

PS: It makes me look like the Pied Piper! :))

I bet that is so funny to see :)).My Archie has the run of the front room but frequently goes back in his cage to toilet and have a snooze.:))
