This is literaly killing me there are 5 piggies in my local p@h. They have 2 gorgeous girls 3 lively boys about 8 months old. They are there because they basically got too old to sell. I really wish i could take them home. They are in these tiny little show cases. They are clean and food hay. I really hope they get a home soon.

Me too! It's soooo hard not to buy these little cuties.
At my local p@H in Chesterfield they have 8 boars up for adoption and it kills me looking at their tiny faces squashed up to the glass :( unfortunately I have no room for boys only room for 1 maybe 2 (at a push) girls.

We to saw the very sam piggies today :( so very sad :(

think about it guys, you take these and another poor female is made pregnant and they are replaced etc etc its a viscious circle and the less people that buy from PAH the less piggies Will be sat on their own in freezing Hutches throughout the country. If you have space please adopt from a rescue x x x x

I already have 6 lovely boys all from rescue's 2 from Becklen 2 from Sokel and 2 from Clairelove :) Doesnt make me feel anymore sad for the ones at PAH !

The ones from my p@h are in the adoption bit because people have brought them back or asked them to have them.
One of the excuses sorry reasons for re-adoption was 'we don't have the room now' the pair of boys were 5 months old :(
Someone else couldn't look after their pair of boars so brought them back to p@h aged approx 7mths.
I can't remember the other reasons, it's so sad but they still need re-homing and the donation money does go to an animal charity.
My latest piggy Betty is from a local rescue and the one before that Shy was rescued half dead from a Garden centre.
I'm waiting to see if any girls come in my local guinea pig rescue or the genuine adoption bit of P@H (not because it's their stock & they can't sell them).

What do you expect to happen to all the animals in petshops if no one buys them? Every animal whether it be in a shop or a rescue, in my eyes need rescuing!

Piggie pal - we're not on about the ones they are selling. I agree entirely people should be going to rescue centers than pet stores. Its horrible and upsetting to see some many pigs in a space that's the size of a hamsters cage. i don't understand why they couldn't be left in the larger pen.

What about the poor breeding pigs that are kept in animal warehouses churning out litter after litter for big stores like PAH? They Will keep breeding and selling pigs if there's demand. Anyway i don't want to have this argument. The fact that there are people on this pro rescue forum who agree with buying from PAH means that there's no hope trying to stop them selling innocent animals to line their pockets with.

i think the adoption side of PAH is a complete joke. Can't believe they've set up an adoption charity when still selling animals over the other side of the shop argh!

So because i see that every animal is in need I'm agreeing with the breeders? A little unfaair isnt it? A couple of hundred of people arent going to stop what happens in pet shops. Like i said i think every animal is in need regardless of where they come from they all need love, they didnt ask to be bought into this world

If it wasnt for places like pet shops and p@h most of you wouldnt have your piggies, as most in rescue centers are from places like that. Yes, if people buy them from shops then yes they will carry on breeding them, as theyre is demand, and if theyre wasnt demand they wouldnt sell them but its the same for all animals, but what do you think would happen to the 1s in the adoption center if nobody bought them? Theyll probably get put to sleep or put in a rescue center, or even sold for just a couple of pounds and end up as a reptiles dinner, my sister in law was offered a rabbit for just a £1 in P@H it had been in the adoption center a while and they wanted to get rid, luckly the woman behind her bought it for her children as they had gone to look for a rabbit but to think, it could of ended up as someones dinner! What really needs to happen is for people to stop treating theyre animals as something disposable and easy to get rid of and then these things would not happen.

i wholeheartedly agree that attitudes need to change towards animals. I think however a longer term attitude needs to be taken for anything to actually change or get better. Of course there's always going to be people breeding pets but if a large chain store sells them to anyone who comes along on a whim without checking their suitability then it gives the impression that these animals are disposable.
What we should be doing as a community that cares about animals is putting pressure on PAH to fully support animal rescue, which means stop selling animals for profit. Any animals that do pass through their doors are rescues and people are fully vetted before adoption is okayed.
That'll happen when hell freezes over!

My 1st two piggies were from a pet shop, they were about 6mths old, both being pews which isn't a strong selling point for piggies. Yes I do think it would be brilliant if all animals brought from a pet shop went to responsible owners but unfortunatly that is never going to happen. Getting these 2 girls was quite a spur of the moment decision we had a spare cage they needed a loving forever home. The thought about getting piggies from a rescue centre never crossed my mind all I saw was 2 adorable girls needing a home. In the years that they lived with me Sherbet had long term eye problems which needed continual treatment costing at least £12 per month, plus additional treatment as and when needed which was quite often, not a lot if you think about it but when you consider they only cost £12 each was it really worth keeping her or should she become a disposable pet. In my opinion I did the right thing in buying them from a pet shop as far as I'm concerned I rescued them from a very uncertain future. They both had long and happy (i'm certain) life with me.

The only thing I've noticed about buying my guineas from P@H, is that none of them have come with unwanted guests (mites and lice), all but 2 of my girls were vet checked on site.. I would rather buy from them, than the local pet shop, as at least their health checked, and guaranteed for a week after..
Humbug is under vet treatment for 'ringworm' (I think it's more likely a yeast infection) and they're covering the costs..
I wasn't going to buy again, but having witnessed her being stuck in a noisy shop for so long, and her getting bigger, meaning she's less likely to find a home, as people want 'cute' little babies that fit in the palm of your hand, I thought if I don't have her, she'll be spending her first Xmas there..
My motto is, all guinea pigs deserve a home, it's not their fault they're were they are, we need to aim higher than just hitting out at the pet shops, it's the politicians we need to push, they're the ones who can stop this from happening..

My daughters 1st 2 guinea pigs were from p@h in Rotherham and the sales assistant questioned me like I was adopting a child, which I found reassuring he asked me loads before I was allowed to purchase them.
Ideally they wouldn't be sold in pet shops but I don't see how things will change unless a new law is passed.
My Albie was bought from a local pet shop who's lovely she only buys from hobby breeders and doesn't charge much more than what she pays and they are kept in good conditions, Alfie was purchased from a city farm.
The younger girls Peppa & Lottie were bought from a breeder who as I've said before kept me there 2 hours lecturing me on guinea pig care before I was allowed to take them along with a list of medical things I might need in the future, which I found most helpful.
Shy was bought from a garden centre, normally I wouldn't have because I don't like that shop at all but she was in with a giant continental rabbit (who was sexually pestering her) and she was in with another 2 guineas in a small pen, she was in a mess with cuts, bumps and missing fur she also had mites/lice and needed to see a vet.
She wouldn't eat or drink for days and at one point I thought she'd die and I stay up to 3am because I thought she was on her way out, thankfully she's made a full recovery, If I hadn't have bought her I firmly believe she's be dead by now:(
Lastly little betty is from a local rescue.
I'm glad I have all of my piggies who are from all different backgrounds and all of them needed a home and I'm happy that it's my home they're in.
I've tried my hardest with the local council (reguarding the garden centre where shy is from) writing a 4 page document about how they shouldn't be allowed to sell animals, I've made endless phone calls to the RSPCA & the people who license pet shops, I photographed the state shy was in and emailed pics to the local council too but that was back at the start of november and I've heard nothing from anyone, which makes me :( and very grrrr but I have tried my hardest.
